3-year fellowship for a vibrant NYC reform/liberal synagogue that has served as a catalyst for progressive Jewish thought, committed social action & support for Israel for more than 100 years. (Possibility of a permanent staff position afterwards). Seeking a rabbi to create an education and advocacy campaign aimed at healing the fractured relationship between American liberal Jews and Israel.

The rabbinic fellow will report directly to the prominent Senior Rabbi. Together you will forge strategic partnerships with thought leaders and other organizations and help train others to advocate for Israel. The rabbinic fellow will develop, implement, optimize and disseminate curricula for K–12 students and their parents. Overall, the goal is to help build Jewish muscle – instilling religious background, historical knowledge, and modern context to engender a stronger sense of Jewish peoplehood and Zionism — and prepare them to deal with the trials ahead, on college campuses, in the professional world, and beyond. The rabbinic fellow will be intimately involved with the Antisemitism Task Force.

Education

Curricula and Teaching:

· Develop & implement curricula with various target age groups to give them an understanding of Zionism & how to see & fight antisemitism & be more effective supporters of Israel in public discourse.
· Publish curricula, create tools & train other educators to export this model to other synagogues and beyond.
· Mentor middle/high schoolers and their parents to build pride & help them navigate and understand antisemitism and anti-Zionism.
Opportunity to lead services and offer sermons.

Missions:
· Travel to Israel and other countries on synagogue missions.
· Plan an Israel trip designed for high school and college students in coordination with the senior rabbi & Religious School director.

Advocacy:

Thought Leadership:
· Write position papers & opinion pieces.
· Assist senior rabbi with podcast content.

Strategic Partnerships:
· Cultivate relationships with other thought leaders, activists & organizations.
· Book guest speakers (including for in-person, virtual or recorded programs,& podcast appearances).
· Assist with fundraising outreach & grant-writing.

Conferences:
· Attend and represent the synagogue at relevant conferences such as the AIPAC Policy Conference, the URJ Biennial and the General Assembly.
· Plan a conference in Spring 2023 and other gatherings.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is open to ordained rabbis only with several years of teaching experience. A degree in education is a plus. You will be mission-driven in the work of building support and understanding of Israel, Zionism among young people and their parents and giving people tools to fight antisemitism and anti-Zionism.

Candidates should have excellent writing skill, strong interpersonal skills, & will be enthused about working with adolescents and young adults.

This position reports directly to the renowned Senior Rabbi, & works closely with the executive director, director of religious education and other clergy. The fellow will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and touch the lives of thousands of Jews.

The organization offers a salary of 120K - 145K, d.o.e., and an excellent benefits package.
